Angelika Schneider (owner of Alterreno):

“I feel very privileged to live in Tuscany. I lived here for over 40 years, first in Florence while I was studying architecture, then in the nearby countryside where I ran a private riding school, until 2011, when I opened and moved to Alterreno.

Even today I am overwhelmed by the beauty of this region and the endless possibilities to discover new wonderful places.

I have been riding for decades in the Tuscan countryside and I passionately share this unique opportunity to discover one of the most beautiful landscapes in the world on horseback.

We offer quality horseback riding and the opportunity to experience the unique beauty of Tuscany on horseback.

Alterreno is designed and managed to offer horses and the people who love them, modern facilities and an environment in which they are safe and appreciated.”

HALF DAY PROGRAM

9.30 – 12.30 or 15.00 – 18.00

You will be welcomed by our team with coffee, tea and welcome drinks.

We will be happy to listen to your past experience with horses and give you time to settle in. We will then introduce you to your horses for this experience and take you on a tour of the facility. After an assessment of your horse management and riding skills, which we believe are a fundamental part of providing a suitable equine partner for you and to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience, we will take you on horseback to discover the Tuscan territory, whether for a beginner within our 30ha farm, or for the more experienced on walks in the surrounding hills.

Depending on your interests, abilities and goals, you can choose from our many activities.

Do you want to better understand the psychology of horses?

This experience covers the essentials for reading and understanding horse behavior, their power of intuition, and how they communicate non-verbally.

We have coaching and horsemanship experts who can introduce or enhance your communication and leadership skills with horses and consequently with humans.

It is important to us that beginners or people who are not familiar with horses feel safe and comfortable in the presence of these animals and before getting on a horse.

Immerse yourself in learning the language of these wonderful animals.

Are you interested in ground work with horses?

Groundwork is an almost forgotten art of working with horses and ranges from basic exercises to gain better control and communication with your horse in daily activities, to work on our large grass “play ground”, tackling various obstacles such as jumps, pedestals, water crossings, trailer loading etc.

I work in hand with a bridle for more advanced movements, including all lateral movements, rein back, etc. This is a wonderful way to work with the horse to learn the use of the reins. Working from the ground gives you the opportunity to observe and better understand how the horse moves.

Lessons in freedom

Communicate and connect with your horse using only your intentions, energy and body language. Horses will teach you to improve your mental and emotional strength and become a trusted leader.

Do you want to improve your riding skills?

We offer individual lessons for beginners and advanced.

Rope lessons to improve sitting and posture.

Preparation for safe rides and walks.

Classical riding lessons.

Want to explore the Tuscan countryside on horseback?

Our walks last from 1.5 to 2 hours, they go along dirt roads, country paths, there is the possibility of trotting and galloping, depending on the level of the group. However, the walk is the main gait.

You go up and down hills and you can cross small rivers, depending on the season. We often encounter wild animals such as badgers, wild boars, deer and porcupines.

We also offer the possibility of organizing longer outings after the first evaluation.

NB: The walks will not be carried out in the months of July and August, due to too many insects.

  • We rent Cap helmets (without XL sizes) and riding boots (from size 37 to 42).
  • It is necessary to have suitable footwear, the sole must be flat with a light profile and a small heel.
  • You cannot ride in sneakers.
  • Long trousers are mandatory.

HORSEBACK RIDING

  • By Italian law we cannot take children under 14 for walks, but we have many trails on our 30 hectare property that offer great variety, including crossing a river.
  • We only accept experienced riders who have been assessed and approved by one of our instructors.
